With 250km of coastline, the Costa Cálida (Warm Coast) is one of Spain’s little known holiday hotspots. Along with the Mar Menor the coast of the Costa Cálida is home to water sports, fishing, scuba diving, sun bathing and nature reserves. The Costa Cálida covers the area from the top of the Mar Menor right along to Águilas. Though the Mar Menor attracts the most visitors, the whole coast has lots to offer. West of Cartagena on the Golfo de Mazarrón the coast is very quiet with many unspoilt beaches and few high rise developments.

This free mappa map covers the south coast including Mazarrón, Puerto de Mazarrón, Águilas and Lorca.

Not to be confused with Mazarrón, Puerto de Mazarrón is a seaside town in the centre of much of the tourism on the south coast and Mediterranean. Puerto de Mazarrón is 70 kilometres from the regional capital and 6km from the town of Mazarrón. The Paseo Marítimo is an attractive promenade providing pedestrian access to the beaches and has many shops, bars, restaurants and ice-cream parlours. Traffic access is strictly regulated and the Paseo is a pleasant area to stroll at any time of the day or night. There are good beaches as you head out of town (North East) and all along the coast towards Águilas, in fact 35km of them (just a small part of the 250km of coastline in the Costa Cálida)! There are also loads of great dive schools based around here, and brilliant dive locations.

Águilas is a southwestern city near the Murcian coast and has an arid and mountainous landscape, extensive beaches with crystalline cliffs and small, little-frequented coves. Tranquil beaches with fine sand, huge cliffs and beautiful coves can be found at San Pedro, Blanca and Los Hierros. Los Hierros is dominated by the tower named Torre De Cope, which has been attacked on numerous occasions by pirates. Close by are the beach at Calabardina and the natural park of Calnegre–Cabo Cope.

Lorca is a genteel city just off the main Águilas, Murcia motorway. The town’s most interesting architecture is from the 16thcentury onwards. It has mountains to a height of 1500m to the North West and an 8km of coastline. The surrounding area is covered with vineyards, almond and olive trees. The attraction of Lorca lies in its history and archaeology, present in the character of its streets.
