Marcus Jenkins is a freelance consultant working internationally for mapping companies. He travelled extensively in his youth, giving him a taste for living abroad. He has a large fully equipped garage with a lathe, bench drill & milling machine and enjoys spending as much time down there as he can, usually with Randy the cat watching. He’s learning to play the bass guitar, enjoys driving his boat in the med and likes target shooting.
Debbie Jenkins is an entrepreneur, author and publisher and was a life-long city dweller who always longed for a place in the countryside. Her greatest excitement is in owning trees – hundreds of them! She’s learning to ride a horse and to show jump, loves doing acrylic paintings and spends most of her time caring for her ever-growing cat and dog colony!
The authors’ Cave House is in the mountains near Corvera, 1 km away from a small village called La Murta, with a population (including them) of 101 people. The village is tidy and peaceful and inhabited by dedicated farmers. They serve on the village fiesta committee most years.
In June 2001 Debbie and Marcus bought a small warehouse, attached to some caves, with 6.5 acres of land. They spent 4 years trying to work out how best to make use of their land, get enough money together to rebuild and renovate the caves and to build a wooden house as an interim solution. In August 2005 they moved into their new house to enjoy the Murcian lifestyle – going native in Murcia – which they now enjoy with their two rescue dogs, Dani and Fuggles, their six bin cats, Randy, Catalina, Hawkeye, BJ, Hotlips & Radar and assorted chickens.
In 2006 Debbie and Marcus bought a second house in the Murcia region in the pretty mountain village of Moratalla.
They have written two books: Going Native In Murcia and Buying Property In Murcia.
Marcus has taken the photos for two cookery books, and Debbie has edited, translated & designed the cookery books. Take a look here: Spanish Village Cooking – Recetas del Campo & Spanish Cooking Uncovered: Farmhouse Favourites
Together they develop offline mapping products for smartphones and smart guides for towns such as Cartagena and have started a new project at UBIGifts.com for personalised location based gifts.
